Alyssa Alfano, writer at Cleveland.com, spoke with our president, Steve Allison, about the launch of our isolation PPE for healthcare professionals and frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fire-Dex, a family-owned global company with a Medina location that makes equipment and PPE for first responders, has been working to make COVID related PPE for first responders during the pandemic.
“From a customer standpoint, we recognized really early that the shortage of PPE that was being reported on was really affecting our fire department customers,” said Fire-Dex President Steven Allison. “There was so much need at the hospital level, the nursing home level, that a lot of that supply got taken away from fire departments.”
Allison shared that the company listened to the voice of the customers. They noticed that fire departments were reporting that they were ordering PPE and that it was taking a very long time to arrive.
Fire-Dex decided to launch two PPE products being their isolation gowns and coveralls that first responders could wear. These products are also reusable and can be laundered where most other PPE can is often meant to be disposed.
“We’re making PPE for people that are doing lifesaving work,” said Allison.
Fire-Dex has been able to continue to serve firefighters through the pandemic and provide them with PPE they need to stay safe in the field. Firefighters aren’t the only ones that can benefit from the work Fire-Dex is doing.
Allison shared that the company has continued to grow despite the pandemic, and that they have been able to continue hiring.
“Fire-Dex has been experiencing tremendous growth over the past five years and we continue to do so through the pandemic and we are aggressively hiring,” said Allison. “Fire-Dex is a special place to work. Our culture is fantastic and we’ve got an incredible mission in trying to serve those who serve.”
