My Journey with Fire-Dex: Amazing

April Moore, Plant Manager of Fire-Dex in Medina, Ohio, has been with the company for 14 years. April started with Fire-Dex as a sewing associate on the pant team in 2011. She had no experience—and children who needed to be cared for.

“I was a single mom of two boys.” April says, and she had been simply making do with temporary work until she decided to apply for a job at Fire-Dex. “It's just been the best thing that I've ever done because I feel that I was able to take care of my boys better once I kept pushing through and growing here.”

April shares some of the difficulties of starting out at Fire-Dex and not knowing how to handle all the different roles she had to play in life. “It was challenging at first,” says April. “I did not honestly think I was going to make it my first few years here because it was just me trying to figure out how to juggle being a single mom and having a full-time job.” Fire-Dex’s flexibility was a lifesaver. April was later married in 2016, but notes that Fire-Dex's family-first mentality made all the difference, allowing her grace to meet the needs of her children.

However, once April was established within Fire-Dex, she realized she would not be a sewing associate forever. She wanted to continue learning and growing, which meant taking on new job positions within the company. In 2017, April was promoted to team leader, and from there she continued trying new things, getting a series of promotions until the most recent—plant manager in 2024.

“I don't dread coming to work,” April says. When asked what she loves about her job, she says, “What we do. I love what we do. I love everybody that I work with. Number one, I'm just proud of what we do. So that makes it easier to come to work every day because we're making a difference.”

And April sees herself taking on new jobs in the company in the future. “I think I'm doing a pretty good job,” she says. “So, what's next for me? What steps do I have to take to get there? What obstacles do I overcome to get there? Who else can I help?”

In the end, April believes that her time at Fire-Dex has changed her as a person. “I'm a better listener. I'm more empathetic. It has helped me to take a step back and be present in the moment.”

In one word, April describes her time with Fire-Dex like this: “All I can say is it's just been amazing.”

April says if she could tell future Fire-Dex employees anything, it would be this: “You just have to stick with it and grow with us because it's an amazing place to work. It is overwhelming. It can be intimidating. But the growth opportunity here is just amazing. Just be patient—it's very rewarding. If you pour into the company, they pour back into you.”
