Gear Wash Passes NFPA #1851 2020 UL Certification

Big news! Gear Wash has passed the UL certification for the NFPA #1851 2020 standard.

This updated standard now requires an Independent Service Provider (ISP) to prove that the cleaning process implemented removes potentially harmful contaminants. This certification is not easily obtained without using the proper equipment, detergents and cleaning processes.

The NFPA 1851 Standard covers selection, care, and maintenance of structural and proximity firefighting PPE. The recent focus on fire service contamination control created significant modifications to the new standard to help reduce your risk of health and safety issues commonly associated with improper maintenance, contamination, or wear.

Significant changes in the standard that affect ISPs, manufacturers, and verified organizations:

  • Rigorous qualifications for conducting advanced inspections, cleanings and repair of PPE
  • Detailed requirements to verify procedures effectively remove contaminants through advanced cleaning and sanitization methods. This testing must be executed 1 year after the effective date of the standard, then every 2 years afterward.

Unlike many ISP’s, Gear Wash has proven the ability to exceed these latest requirements, so make sure you’re choosing an ISP who is holding up to the current standard.
