Meet the #FireDexFamily: Allen Rom, Director of METRO & International Sales

Allen started at Fire-Dex in November 2000 resulting in him being one of the longest members of our sales team. Before Fire-Dex, he had 7 years in the computer training industry for Novell-Lotus-Microsoft in Albany, New York and Ohio. He also spent 8 years in the hotel business in south Florida. Now, he handles many of our METRO accounts and all international accounts. Learn more about Allen below.

What are 3 things people don’t know about you and may be surprised to learn?
  1. High School concert band Percussionist.
  2. Fraternity Pledge Master.
  3. Foster parent.

 

What is the coolest thing about your job and why?
Meeting firefighters across the country and seeing how similar they are. Seeing how different firefighting is outside the US & Canada.


Have you been anywhere recently for the first time?
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.


What show are you currently binge watching?
Harry Bosch.


What's the best and worst advice you've ever received?
Best Advice - See and know the PPE in the bay before you show the solution. Bill Burke.

Worst Advice - Telling me what was missed during a presentation after the presentation ends from a person who was in the presentation and chose not to add it when it would have been helpful!


How do you relax after a hard day of work or on the weekends?
Sapphire & Tonic. TV and movies. Driving. Boating.

 

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?

Not by choice. As a 14 year old got into a car of my older brothers classmates who mistook me for him. They demolished an old junker car at a gravel pit, burned it and pushed it into the deep pit lake.

 

Imagine you could step in a teleport for a day and go to any place and time in history. Where and when would you travel to?

What's your favorite family tradition?

Opening Christmas gifts one at a time.


If you had to eat one meal everyday for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Wedge salad, filet medium-well, baked with butter & sour cream and corn. Followed by mom's pumpkin pie.



What's the last book you read?
Ted Bell: "Hawk."

 

What's your favorite happy hour drink?

Sapphire & Tonic with a lime.

 

What's the nerdiest thing you do in your free time?

Watch This Old House and Highway to Hell.

 

What's your favorite movie and why? (yes, you can only pick one!)

James Bond, For Your Eyes Only.


If you could bring back ANY fashion trend, what would it be?

The non-existence of hats, sandals and hoodies.

 

What is your favorite song to "bust a move" to?

Quad City DJ's. C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)


What's something you want to do in the next year that you've never done before?

Canadian Rockies Train.

 

If you had to delete all but 3 apps on your phone, what would you keep?

Fox News. Facebook. ESPN.


What could you give a 30-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?

Any Fire-Dex product. James Bond books and movies.

 

What was the worst haircut you ever had?

1985. Unbeknownst to me it was training night in West Palm Beach.


Where is your dream vacation spot?

Any white sand beach with an umbrella, a bar-runner and no other humans besides family.

What irrational fear do you have?

Clowns. Nothing irrational about it!! Coulrophobia.


What is your most used emoji?

None, very rarely a smiley face.


If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?

Drawing.
