Fire-Dex announces the acquisition of an 88,000 square foot manufacturing operation to address the growing demand for its top-of-the-line first responder Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Once a thriving shirt manufacturer, Darwood Manufacturing, located at 620 West Railroad St., Pelham, GA, winded down operations on April 16, 2018. In its prime, they employed over 400 associates. The facility, equipment, and skilled and able workforce were attractive reasons for Fire-Dex to acquire the company.
“The acquisition brings prosperity back to the people of Pelham, GA and increases our capacity to serve those who serve,” states Fire-Dex CEO, Bill Burke, “As a partially-functioning facility, the Georgia property has already brought back 58 jobs to Mitchell County with plans of continued growth as production progresses.”
The additional space allows for increased production, warehousing and distribution, ultimately decreasing lead times and providing a better buying experience for customers.
“Continuous improvement is always top of mind at Fire-Dex,” says Steve Allison, President, “Every decision is strategically considered to improve our efficiencies and contribute to the betterment of the customer experience.”
Earlier this year, Fire-Dex expanded its existing headquarters in Medina, OH – a significant sign of the company’s success as an innovator of cutting-edge technologies and its focus on alleviating the top two health and safety concerns of firefighters nationwide: carcinogen exposure and cardiac fatigue.
