Fire Prevention Week, sponsored annually by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is a time-honored tradition with a rich history dating back over a century. This week-long event, typically observed in the first week of October, holds immense significance in raising awareness about fire safety and prevention measures. With roots dating back to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, a devastating inferno that left 300 people dead, 100,000 homeless, and large parts of the city in ruins, the NFPA decided to commemorate this tragic event in 1922 by dedicating a week to fire prevention education. This initiative aimed to educate communities on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
