How Strong is TECGEN71?

Light. Thin. Flexible.

Our TECGEN71 Outer Shell was carefully engineered using Milliken. Known for its long history of fire-resistant fabric manufacturing and military attire, Milliken shares a common goal with us; protect those who protect us.

Knowing how heat stress was impacting the fire industry, it was natural for both teams to want to discover a solution.  The collaboration aimed to construct a flexible, light weight composite system featuring the highest THL in the market without sacrificing thermal protection or durability in the process.

By utilizing the Milliken Rapid Prototype Center to test many different blends and designs, TECGEN71 was born!

TECGEN71 was the first of its kind to address heat stress by offering a perfect balance of breathability, comfort, TPP and THL- all while offering an overall reduction in composite weight.

But how strong is TECGEN71?
TECGEN-Fabric-Face-and-Back

TECGEN71 features the collective strength of Kevlar® and Nomex® on the face of the fabric with the superior thermal protection of TECGEN fiber on the back.

Kevlar® by DuPont™ was introduced to the fire industry in 1971 and has since been a source of strength firefighter’s have depended on for their safety. The fiber exhibits an extremely high tensile strength-to-weight ratio that’s acclaimed to be 5 times stronger than steel.

DuPont™ Nomex®, on the other hand, is inherently flame resistant, strong and allows for greater flexibility. According to DuPont™, garments made with Nomex® last an average of 2-3 times longer than most other protective fabrics.

These fibers combined with TECGEN outperform NPFA standards and pave the way for new opportunities for improvement within PPE design.
